OFF HOURS
UCLA's Department of Art Staff Exhibition Biennial
The exhibition is the second of its kind - showcasing the talents of the Department of Art's support staff who not only supervise the daily operations of the various genres, but also have their own art practices in their "off hours." Their works are as diverse as their disciplines - including Orser's video installation and monument to VHS videotapes; a suspended 20ft steel rendering of the constellation Taurus by Evans; a performative sculpture by Simon memorializing the daily accrual of US soldiers killed in Iraq; Bassett's mapping of proto-punk rock band MC5's cross-country tour; sculptural and drawn action artifacts by Beller; radioactive and suggestive rock formations by Hayes; the literally and metaphorically incisive photography of Lipps; and, Pankin's architecturally unsound wooden wall tableaus.
