| James Welling | PROFFESOR, AREA HEAD Welling has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. His retrospective exhibition James Welling Photographs, 1974-1999, originated at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio and traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. In 2002, a substantial retrospective opened at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Belgium. Recent solo venues include Agricultural Works; Samuel Dorsky Museum, SUNY, New Paltz; Donald Young Gallery, Chicago; Regen Projects, Los Angeles; Gorney Bravin + Lee, New York; Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne; Sprengel Museum, Hanover, Germany; Leslie Tonkonow Artworks and Projects, New York; Kunstmuseum Luzern, Switzerland; Galerie Nelson, Paris; The Carnegie Museum, Pittsburg; Jay Gorney Modern Art, New York; S.L. Simpson Gallery, Toronto; Camden Art Centre, London; American Fine Arts, New York; Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste, Calais, France; and Kunsthalle, Bern, Switzerland. Group exhibitions include Prospect 96, Frankfurt, Germany; Tuning Up, Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, Germany; The Sublime Void, Fine Arts Museum, Antwerp; Documenta IX, Kassel, Germany; and The BiNational, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Welling has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant; a New York Foundation for the Arts grant, and the 1999 DG Bank Forder Prize in Photography. His published books include Light Sources (1996); Wolfsburg (1994); Usines de Dentelle (1993); and Les Voies Ferrees/St. Etienne et La Plaine du Forez (1990); James Welling Photographs 1974-99 (2000); James Welling Abstract (2002); and (with his brother Will Welling) Agricultural Works/Insect Chorus (2004).
