Exhibition runs | September 3 - 17 2009
UCLA’s Department of Art is pleased to announce the opening of RELATED WORK, an art exhibition featuring works by Chris Bassett, Ed Beller, Ben Evans, Matt Lipps, Jared Pankin, Julie Orser, and Steven Simon. This biennial event will include works in sculpture, installation, video, photography, and painting, to be held in the New Wight Gallery at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Center.
The exhibition is the third of its kind – showcasing the talents of the Department of Art’s support staff who not only supervise the daily operations of the various genres, but also have their own art practices.
Their works are as diverse as their disciplines – including new works by Evans exploring the spectrum of light and the 4th (spatial) dimension; Simon’s sculptures examine the vulnerability and visual brilliance of coral reefs; Beller’s surrealist displays disrupt the normal run of things by threatening to deliver the ‘Thing’ itself; Bassett presents video and drawings which detail the history of two international banking empires across centuries; Pankin’s "Bonsai" series visually explores the simultaneous and divergent meanings of the practice and expression; Orser’s video installation considers the formation of adolescent subjectivity in relation to place; and Lipps presents a suite of large-scale psycho-architectural interior photographs.
