Title: Administrative Specialist, New Genres Area

Position: Temporary Part-time Position (approximately 16 hours a week) *Specific days/times required, see below.

Start Date: September 14, 2009
End Date: June 30, 2010
There is no paid work on UCLA holidays

Pay: approximately $21/hour

Description: Primary duties include assisting in the technical instruction and support of all New Genres area equipment, software, tools, and facilities used by graduate and undergraduate students. The Administrative Specialist will help maintain inventory, checkout equipment, power/hand tools and other supplies, as well as aid in the safe use of this equipment. This employee will assist the Lab Supervisor in research and in the collection of video reference materials, including data basing DVD titles, cataloging, dubbing and organizing video materials for student and faculty use. The Administrative Specialist will help in all aspects of the area including maintenance and security of the facilities and will report directly to the New Genres Lab Supervisor and Faculty Area Head. Qualifications: We are looking for friendly applicants who are technically knowledgeable in the use of video and audio equipment and can share their knowledge with students. The ability to think creatively and trouble shoot technical problems is a necessary part of the position. The candidate should have a background in art (or possibly film/video) and an MFA or equivalent experience is required. Knowledge of video and performance art history and contemporary practices is also required.

Technology Requirements: Knowledge of Sony Video Cameras (including HDV cameras), Audio Recording Equipment, Microphones, Tripods, Dollys, Lighting Equipment, Digital Still Cameras, Video Projectors, DVD Players, Blu-Ray Players, Speakers, Wiring Equipment, MAC computers, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, DVD Studio Pro and Small Power Tools is required. Some knowledge of or a willingness to learn Filemaker, Pro Tools, Toast and iStopMotion is also required. Time Requirements: This “limited” appointment is for one academic year.  It is a temporary part-time position of approximately 16 hours a week, starting on September 14, 2009 continuing through to June 30, 2010

You must be able to work:
·       Tuesdays 9:00am to 5:30pm
·       Thursdays 12:00pm to 5:30pm
·       Fridays 1:30pm to 4:30pm

*The ability to work these days and times are required for this position. Tuesday and Thursday hours include a thirty-minute unpaid lunch break. There is no pay for UCLA holidays.
