September 24October 8, 2015
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 24, 5:00-8:00pm

Fragment is a take on how recent MFA candidates across Southern California contend with the presence of photography in their work. Drawing from diverse practices, the central question of the exhibition asks if the general concerns placed on photography belong to photography alone or if these concerns are shared across disciplines.

Fragment seeks to understand the remainder, what is left unaccounted for in photography, which works explicitly against the ontological inquiries of the medium. The exhibition focuses on how one begins to deal with a fragmentary world, the vast remnant, and what exists outside of the frame, concept, or context, toward a desired sum or whole.

Organized by UCLA Department of Art graduate students Kevin Buzzell,
Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Martyna Szczesna.
