JOHN BALDESSARI
Professor. Interdisciplinary Studio.

Since 1960, Baldessari’s works have been shown in one-man and group shows in the United States and around the world in such countries as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, England, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Austria, and France. Recent retrospective exhibition venues include Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wein, Vienna, Austria; the Kunsthaus Graz, Austria; and the Musée d’ Art Contemporain de Nîmes, France. Recent solo exhibition venues include Cristina Guerra Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal; Spruth Magers Lee, London, England; Galerie Meert Rihoux, Brussels, Belgium; Galeria Pepe Cobo, Madrid, Spain; Mai 36 Galerie, Zurich, Switzerland; Deutsche Guggenheim Museum, Berlin, Germany; and Marian Goodman Gallery, New York. His work has been included in many group exhibitions including the following recent shows: Los Angeles 1955—1985, Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; Open Systems: Rethinking Art c. 1970, Tate Modern, London, England; Beyond Geometry: Experiments in Form, 1940s—1970s, Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His works are represented in many permanent collections including the Tate Modern, London, England; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, Amsterdam, Holland; Kunstmuseum, Basel, Switzerland; Australian National Gallery; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and Chicago; and the Whitney Museum of Art, New York. Baldessari is the recipient of the Americans for the Arts Lifetime achievement award; the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities Fellowship; the College Art Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award; the Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts, California; the Spectrum-International Award for Photography from the Foundation of Lower Saxony, Germany; Membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Baldessari has also received Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Fine Arts from the Burren College of Art, National University of Ireland; San Diego State University; University of California at San Diego; and Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, Los Angeles.
